Carrick confirms Mainoo deal is close

Man Utd interim head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed that a contract agreement with Kobbie Mainoo is "getting closer."

The 20-year-old has been given a new lease on life by the new Red Devils manager after struggling for minutes under Ruben Amorim. Mainoo was previously keen to leave the club on loan, but he is now on the verge of penning a new long-term contract.

"Obviously, we'd like to think so, yeah, and it's getting closer, so we're positive with that," Carrick said of a potential extension for Mainoo. "We’re calm with it, but we're positive with it. Time will tell how it goes, but at the moment we're in a good place with it."

Leao to Man Utd mooted

Man Utd could be a viable destination for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao this summer, Gazzetta dello Sport claims.

The Portugal international has struggled to match his performances of years past, and speculation is increasing that he could be on the move this summer. He is no longer considered untouchable by the Rossoneri.

Premier League clubs are attentive to the situation, with Man Utd suggested as a potential club that could be interested in the 26-year-old. Milan may be tempted to sell for a fee as low as €50m.

Formal Monga approach expected

Man Utd are among the clubs interested in signing Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga, as per TEAMtalk.

Arsenal, Man City and the Red Devils are locked in a battle for Monga's signature and expected to make a "formal approach" for him this summer, with Leicester facing the prospect of relegation from the Championship.

However, Leicester have not given up hope of tying their homegrown down to a long-term, professional contract when he turns 17 this summer. They hope that the promise of guaranteed game time will convince him to stay for a while longer.

Rashford deal closer?

Barcelona's efforts to sign Man Utd loanee Marcus Rashford are set to be boosted with the sale of Ansu Fati to AS Monaco.

AS and L'Equipe have reported that the Principality club are set to activate their €11m purchase option in Fati's loan deal from Barcelona, although they have yet to agree terms on a contract as they need him to take a significant pay cut.

This, in turn, would be a welcome financial windfall for Barcelona, who have thus far struggled to muster the finances required to trigger the purchase option in Rashford's deal.

Rowe an option for Man Utd?

Premier League clubs are monitoring Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe, who impressed against Aston Villa in the Europa League last week, Gazzetta dello Sport states.

The 22-year-old former Norwich City youngster dreams of returning to the Premier League, though signing him will likely require a fee in the region of €45m this summer.

Data from analytics firm SciSports suggests that Man Utd would be a good stylistic fit for Rowe, though there are concerns over whether he is already at the level required to play for the Red Devils.
