Chelsea transfer news: Huge market opportunity as Darwin Nunez truth revealed
All the latest Chelsea transfer news in one place, including updates on Marc Casado, Darwin Nunez and Cole Palmer.
Chelsea to change transfer policy
Chelsea bosses have quietly admitted that their transfer policy of almost exclusively signing young players has failed, according to the BBC.
Senior figures have held discussions with Marc Cucurella following his public criticism of the club's approach to the market. During these talks, the Spaniard was told that Chelsea are planning to sign more experienced players in defence, midfield and the attack.
Captain Reece James received the same assurances during his negotiations over a new long-term contract. Both players reportedly had their fears allayed by the Blues' promises.
Casado opportunity
Marc Casado is likely to leave Barcelona this summer, Sport reports.
The 22-year-old has tasked his new agent Jorge Mendes with finding him a new club after struggling for minutes in recent months. Last summer, Casado rejected approaches from Chelsea and Wolves.
Barcelona are not actively pushing the midfielder out of the club, but they will advise him to leave the club for the good of his career, making him a big market opportunity. For Barcelona, the sale of Casado will represent pure profit.
Nunez truth revealed
Chelsea are in contact with former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, but signing him would be a monumental gamble.
The Uruguay international struggled to perform at a good Premier League level during his spell at Anfield, and there is a reason why he has been frozen out at Al-Hilal.
Nunez has been in rapid decline in recent times, which is a major worry for a Chelsea hierarchy that can ill-afford to get another striker signing wrong after the Liam Delap debacle.
Chelsea can't afford to lose senior players
Chelsea have been warned that they can't afford more drama involving senior players after the outbursts of Enzo Fernandez and the aforementioned Cucurella.
Journalist Luke Edwards believes that, if the situation doesn't improve, major exits will be inevitable this summer, and this could even involve Cole Palmer, who has been linked with a move to Man Utd.
"There's constant noise, which I suspect will get louder, about Cole Palmer wanting out," Edwards said. "This is the problem Chelsea and BlueCo have when they run it like a business. They've recruited all these players on long-term contracts, but it's a short career. These players might not see that they're going to win the big prizes at Chelsea, so they might want out."
