Manchester United are reportedly ready to rival Chelsea in the race to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouedraogo, who could cost as much as €100 million this summer.
The Germany international has enjoyed an eye-catching second season at Leipzig under Ole Werner and his performances this term have attracted the attention of several top scouts across European football.

Ouedraogo suffered an injury-hit first campaign at Leipzig, but he has rediscovered his best form in 2025-26 and reports in German media have suggested that both Chelsea and Man Utd are “crazy” about signing him this year.
This has now been confirmed by TEAMtalk, who claim that Leipzig could demand a fee of €100m during the upcoming summer transfer window as they look to ward off any suitors.
While Chelsea and Man Utd are considered to be the frontrunners to sign Ouedraogo, they are expected to face significant competition for his signature as Arsenal, Barcelona, Liverpool and Newcastle United have all sent scouts to watch him in action this term.
Despite significant interest from across Europe, the 19-year-old is reportedly fully focused on performing for Leipzig and earning a place in Germany’s squad for this summer’s World Cup. However, rumours of an exit are expected to ramp up over the coming months.
Man Utd to sign Assan Ouedraogo?
Man Utd’s pursuit of Ouedraogo comes following reports that top target Elliot Anderson is likely to join fierce rivals Manchester City this summer. The Red Devils are desperate to sign a new central midfielder to replace the departing Casemiro and their transfer chiefs have now identified a number of targets to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo next season.
In addition to Ouedraogo, Man Utd have also been linked with fellow RB Leipzig stars Yan Diomande and Castello Lukeba in recent weeks as they club begin their preparations ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.
It’s reported that a central midfielder and a left winger will be prioritised by the Old Trafford hierarchy this summer, with the club also potentially set to bolster their options in defence. Man Utd could be forced to sign a new centre forward too if Joshua Zirkzee opts to leave the club amid his lack of game time so far this season.
The Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League table after 29 matches, having picked up 51 points, and interim boss Michael Carrick is the bookies’ favourite to be appointed on a permanent basis following an eye-catching start to life in the Old Trafford dugout.
