Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Man Utd deal confirmed, Bayern Munich 'unhappy' with Liverpool
Fabrizio Romano has delivered a series of key transfer updates from around Europe, with updates on Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Maguire set to sign Man Utd deal
Fabrizio Romano revealed details of Harry Maguire’s potential new contract with Manchester United, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
Speaking on YouTube, Romano said: “The club want to keep him, so I can tell you guys, Maguire will sign a new contract at Manchester United very soon. It’s almost done: 2027, one more season plus an option until 2028.
“The salary is going to be different compared to his previous salary. Everything is being sorted with his agents and his camp, but Maguire is more than happy to stay and continue at Manchester United."
Man Utd preparing for ‘very active’ summer
Man Utd will be ‘very active’ in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Romano, with money set to be raised through player departures.
“First of all, they will save some money because Rasmus Højlund is leaving and Marcus Rashford is leaving – the deal is still to be sorted with Barcelona, but that’s the path,” Romano said.
“Jadon Sancho is leaving on a free, and Casemiro is expected to leave on a free. These are all important salaries for Manchester United to give up.
“In the cases of Højlund and Rashford, there will be fresh transfer money, plus the Champions League revenue.
“The plan is to invest in several positions: a left winger, one or two midfielders, a left back, and potentially more in defence. Manchester United will be very active on the market in the summer."
Bayern ‘not happy’ with Liverpool amid Olise links
Michael Olise will not be leaving Bayern Munich this summer, with Romano echoing the comments of Uli Hoeness this week and revealing details of tension with Liverpool.
Romano said: "Uli Hoeneß, the honorary president at Bayern Munich—who is a very influential figure—said in an interview with DPA that Bayern will not sell Michael Olise. This confirms what I have always told you regarding links with Liverpool and other English clubs: Michael Olise is not leaving Bayern in the summer.
“For Bayern, he is untouchable. They did not include any sort of release clause in his contract, so Bayern decides. Today, Hoeneß even said publicly, 'Forget about it,' because even for €200 million, they are not going to sell the player. He said, 'We don’t need money in the bank; we need players to have fun and win titles.'
“He also replied to the Liverpool links by saying Liverpool spent €500 million last summer on new signings and are having a bad season, so they don't want to contribute to Liverpool's success. Behind the scenes, Bayern are still not happy with how Liverpool got Florian Wirtz while Bayern were also negotiating for him."
Llorente to pen new Atletico Madrid contract
Marcos Llorente will resist interest from the Premier League to extend his contract with Atletico Madrid, according to Romano.
"Marcos Llorente is out of contract in 2027 with Atletico Madrid. He is on the shortlist of several clubs in England who have pressed for him,” Romano said. “However, the message to his agents is quite clear: he wants to continue at Atletico Madrid.
“Llorente loves life in Madrid and is not attracted by different opportunities. Despite calls from the Premier League, he is more than keen to extend his contract and put pen to paper on a new deal.
“He has also said he probably won't play past the age of 35; he wants to enjoy this final part of his career at Atletico. Negotiations are ongoing, and he is more than happy to stay in Spain."
Real Madrid contracts update
Romano revealed the details on the futures of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba at Real Madrid, with both players having their contracts expire in June.
"With Rudiger, it’s still 50/50. This situation will be resolved between now and the end of the season. On one side, several clubs—including some from Saudi Arabia and Europe—are trying to tempt him on a free transfer.
“However, Rüdiger constantly shows his mentality, leadership, and impact on the dressing room. Real Madrid are still considering the possibility of keeping him and negotiating a new contract. Conversations are ongoing with his camp, though no final decision has been made yet as it is both a financial and technical decision.
“In the case of David Alaba, I expect the Austrian defender to leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window on a free transfer to try something new. There are already some clubs interested in Alaba, and we will follow that situation in the coming weeks."
