€25m star confirms Chelsea transfer request
Strasbourg loanee Filip Jorgensen has confirmed that he asked Chelsea to leave the club this summer following two years as the club’s back-up goalkeeper.
The Denmark international moved to Stamford Bridge from Villarreal for €24.5 million in 2024, but he played second fiddle to Robert Sanchez throughout his time in west London, before securing a loan move to sister club Strasbourg in August.
Jorgensen has played every available minute for Strasbourg so far this season and he has admitted that he requested a Chelsea exit due to his lack of game time at the club.
“Ever since January, I knew I wanted to switch. I wanted to play every weekend and show what I can do. It means an awful lot. I'm very happy about it,” Jorgensen told Tipsbladet while on international duty with Denmark.
“They [Chelsea] asked me two months before the end of the season what I wanted for next season – whether I wanted to stay or whether I wanted to leave. And I just want to play. If I could play everything at Chelsea, I would like to stay, but if not, I would like to leave.”
When asked if he believes he could return to Chelsea next summer, Jorgensen added: “I'm not thinking about it right now. I just want to have a good year, and then next summer we'll see what happens.”
The 24-year-old’s current contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2031, however he is likely to be sold on a permanent deal next summer if Chelsea are able to find a suitor.
Will Filip Jorgensen leave Chelsea in 2027?
While Jorgensen has refused to confirm whether he will leave Chelsea on a permanent basis next year, it seems highly unlikely that he will be re-integrated at Stamford Bridge, meaning an exit is expected to be finalised.
The Blues signed Emiliano Martinez to become their new first-choice goalkeeper before the end of the summer transfer window and with youngster Mike Penders waiting in the wings, there is no room for Jorgensen.
As a result, Chelsea are expected to sell him on a permanent deal in 2027, with Sanchez also likely to depart once he returns from a loan spell at Como.
