Fermin Lopez has confirmed that he has no intention of ever leaving Barcelona amid reported interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Spain international was heavily linked with a Premier League switch last summer, with Chelsea pushing to finalise a late deal before Deadline Day, but an agreement couldn’t be reached and he remained at Barcelona instead.

It’s understood that Hansi Flick’s side were reluctant to sanction the sale of Fermin, while the player himself never agitated for a move due to his desire to remain at Camp Nou.

While on international duty with Spain, Fermin has once again reiterated his commitment to Barcelona. When asked about his proposed summer move to Chelsea, the 22-year-old told Catalunya Radio: “It was a bit complicated; I felt a lot of pressure, but I never wavered. I couldn’t say anything.

“Barca renewed my contract, and I’m very grateful. As far as I’m concerned, I’d stay here forever.”

Since opting to stay at Barcelona over the summer, Fermin has established himself as a regular in Flick’s preferred starting XI and he has notched an incredible 12 goals and 16 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Chelsea forced to pursue Fermin Lopez alternatives

With a move for Fermin almost guaranteed to be off the table, Chelsea will instead be required to pursue an alternative target amid their bid to sign a player capable of competing with Cole Palmer in the No.10 position.

Aston Villa superstar Morgan Rogers has emerged as a primary candidate for the role, despite the fact he recently signed a new long-term contract with Unai Emery’s side, while Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade, who has recently been deployed in an attacking midfield slot, has also been linked with a Stamford Bridge switch.

Chelsea are expected to sign a new winger this summer too, with FC Koln wonderkid Said El Mala earmarked as a top target following Kenan Yildiz’s decision to sign a new deal at Juventus.
