Arsenal to hijack 'next Angel Di Maria' signing after Liverpool bid
Arsenal have entered the race for Midtjylland star Dario Osorio after Liverpool had a bid for the winger rejected, according to Danish media.
The 22-year-old appears to be increasingly likely to be on the move this summer. Osorio has been a highly regarded talent for years, and he now looks poised to get his big transfer.
Primarily a right-winger, the 21-cap Chile international has scored six goals and provided 10 assists for Midtjylland so far this season. As a result of his exploits, Premier League interest is ramping up. According to Campo, Bournemouth are Osorio's most persistent suitors.
However, the Danish outlet also reports that Liverpool, who are in the market for a long-term Mohamed Salah replacement, previously had a bid of less than €10 million rejected because it was nowhere near Midtjylland's valuation.
Moreover, Arsenal have taken a liking to the Chilean, adding him to their shortlist of young targets with the potential to become future stars for the first team. The Gunners' interest should come as no surprise.
Arsenal's chief scout knows Osorio well
That is because Arsenal's chief South America scout, Jonathan Vidalle, revealed last October that he has been following Osorio's development closely. Indeed, he went so far as to suggest that he has a similar profile to Argentina icon Angel di Maria.
"I see similarities in Dario Osorio with Di Maria when he started, because he has that characteristic of an intelligent winger, skilled in one-on-one situations, who knows how to cut inside and finish well, but perhaps he was not ready for a bigger leap [when he left Chile]," Vidalle said.
"For example, going to Arsenal was too big a step, a giant one, so sometimes it's better to move to leagues like Mexico, Holland, Portugal, or Denmark.
"It's the best way to fully develop the player, to finally gain confidence, to exploit all his strengths, and to see what he's made of, obviously with a different mentality."
Having shown that he can more than hold his own in a solid European league, Osorio looks to be ready to make the step up to the Premier League.
