Chelsea have submitted a verbal offer worth €30 million for Nantes defender Tylel Tati, according to reports in France.

The 18-year-old has been a regular at centre-back for Nantes so far this season and Chelsea have earmarked him as a top transfer target amid their pursuit of defensive reinforcements.

That is according to renowned French publication L’Equipe, who claim that Chelsea have lodged a €30m proposal in an attempt to finalise a deal for Tati before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on Monday evening.

Liam Rosenior’s side are yet to formally confirm their offer in writing, however Nantes have reportedly already rejected their initial approach.

The Blues were eager to sign Tati on a permanent deal before sending him back to the Ligue 1 club on loan, but their proposal has been turned down. It’s claimed that a deal is unlikely to take place before the end of the winter transfer window, but Chelsea are understood to be closely tracking his progress.

Tati has started 18 of Nantes’ 20 Ligue 1 matches so far this season, with the teenager’s only absences coming due to injury and suspension, and he has established himself as one of the most promising young central defenders in European football in the process.

Chelsea chase new centre-back

While Chelsea are reportedly unlikely to sign Tati before the winter transfer window slams shut on 2 February, they remain in negotiations over a deal for Stade Rennais star Jeremy Jacquet.

The France U21 international has expressed his desire to secure a Stamford Bridge switch, however Chelsea are yet to finalise a deal with Rennes and the clubs are locked in talks over a potential fee.

The Blues are also increasingly likely to recall Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at sister club Strasbourg, with Aaron Anselmino set to replace the Frenchman in Gary O’Neil’s squad.
