Man Utd officials watch €70m star ahead of '100% confirmed' transfer
Senior Manchester United scouts were on-site to watch Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown in action midweek, according to a report.
It has been a dire few weeks for the Bundesliga outfit, resulting in the sacking of head coach Dino Toppmoller. Interim boss Dennis Schmitt and his assistant, club legend Alex Meier, have been unable to stop the rot.
Frankfurt were brushed aside by Tottenham in the Champions League on Wednesday, but the Eagles were already out of the competition anyway, so they had one eye on Saturday's clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
Nevertheless, Schmitt opted to start some key players, including Nathaniel Brown. According to TEAMtalk, this was good news for Man Utd as they had scouts at the Waldstadion specifically to watch the 22-year-old.
Brown has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in German football in recent years, and he is fully expected to be on the move in the summer. Sky Germany claimed in December that it was already "100 per cent confirmed" that he would leave the club.
Man Utd chase Brown deal
Man Utd are long-standing admirers of the full-back, and it was previously thought that he would be ideal for Ruben Amorim's back-three system. Despite the Portuguese's sacking, the Red Devils remain interested.
It is claimed that Man Utd had scouts in Frankfurt because the club are stepping up their search for a new left-back. Recruitment bosses Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell believe that adding to that position should be one of the summer priorities.
With Patrick Dorgu increasingly showing that he can be a devastating winger, Man Utd are short on natural left-back options. This problem will be addressed in the next window, and Brown is one of the top options for the position.
Intriguingly, while it was previously claimed that he could cost €70 million and above, it is now being asserted that he could be had for less than €50m. This is perhaps due to Frankfurt's recent slump.
Brown, although far from faultless, has been one of the brighter players for the Eagles during their struggles. He has notched three assists from his wing-back position since early December. All told, he has six assists and a goal to his name this term.
