Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has once again proved to Chelsea they made a mistake by opting against finalising a deal this summer.

The Nigeria superstar has been linked with a blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge for the past two years and Blues legend John Obi Mikel has previously confirmed that an agreement was close to being reached between all parties.

However, Chelsea ultimately decided that Osimhen’s wage demands were too great and they allowed Galatasaray to sign the 26-year-old on a permanent deal in July, following a hugely successful loan stint last season.

The former Napoli star has unsurprisingly started the 2025-26 campaign in fine goalscoring form and he netted a brace, including a stoppage time winner, to fire Galatasaray to a 3-2 victory over Samsunspor on Friday night.

It means Osimhen has now scored 11 goals in 14 matches across all competitions so far this term, despite struggling with a few injury niggles throughout the season.

Six of those strikes have come in just three Champions League appearances and Osimhen has already proven himself to have been an excellent signing for Galatasaray.

Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, on the other hand, have flattered to deceive at Chelsea.

Chelsea’s striker woes

While Osimhen has continued his excellent goalscoring record since joining Galatasaray on a permanent deal, Chelsea’s current crop of strikers have seen their form dip dramatically.

Delap arrived at Stamford Bridge amid much acclaim, following an eye-catching debut season at Ipswich Town, and he was billed as the Blues’ replacement for Diego Costa.

Since his move to west London, however, he has embodied Costa’s fighting spirit, but he has lacked the goals needed.

Delap has only scored two goals in 17 games for Chelsea and he is still yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this term. The Englishman has even remarkably given away more fouls (9) than he has registered shots on target (4) since returning from a hamstring injury in late October.

Furthermore, he dislocated his shoulder during a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday, after a physical battle with Marcos Senesi, and he is set to be on the sidelines for the next eight weeks.

Pedro, meanwhile, has seen his form nosedive following a sensational start to life as a Chelsea player.

The Brazil international helped to fire the Blues to Club World Cup glory over the summer, scoring three goals in three games, and he continued that form into the new campaign.

However, he has only found the back of the net twice in his last 14 appearances for Chelsea, while he hasn’t registered an assist during that time either.

The Blues once again have a centre forward issue, despite signing Delap and Pedro in a bid to rectify this over the summer, and they must undoubtedly rue their decision to end their pursuit of Osimhen earlier this year.
