Liverpool receive shock update over Slot future as Guehi transfer takes shape
Liverpool could be handed a major boost in their 2026 plans after receiving some intriguing news from Crystal Palace which could affect Marc Guehi and Arne Slot.
The Premier League champions are in the midst of a turbulent point of their season, with the pressure piling on Slot after a poor run of form and a sensational bust up with Mohamed Salah.
Tensions have eased for the time being after a 2-0 win over Brighton but much will depend on how the following weeks progress ahead of the January transfer window.
With speculation over Salah’s future expected to drag on as he heads to the African Cup of Nations, Liverpool may find themselves facing a busy winter, particularly with the signing of a defender also expected to be pursued.
Joe Gomez went off injured during the first half of the win against Brighton and Liverpool may reignite their move for Guehi, which broke down in the final minutes of the summer transfer window.
However, the situation could get even more tricky for Liverpool if results don’t continue to improve, with Slot’s future still on the line and a new potential successor likely to become available in the coming months.
Glasner set to leave Crystal Palace
According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Crystal Palace have already outlined Getafe’s Jose Bordalas as a replacement for Oliver Glasner, who is said to have ‘no intention’ of renewing his contract at Selhurst Park.
The Crystal Palace manager has been a revelation for the Eagles since his appointment in February 2024 and he is among the bookmakers’ favourites to take over from Slot if Liverpool make a change of manager.
Glasner’s current contract is set to expire in the summer and the Austrian has grown frustrated at Palace’s reluctance to spend big and build on their FA Cup win last season, particularly after being open to selling Guehi during the summer.
However, with the manager seemingly on the way out, Palace may be more inclined to cash in on Guehi in January instead of letting the England international leave on a free in the summer when his contract runs out, knowing that their captain’s future will not change Glasner’s mind regardless.
The situation could see Liverpool given a path to signing both their top defensive target and also potentially appointing one of the most impressive managers in the Premier League, should they soon feel a need to part ways with Slot.
