Man Utd target FOUR stars to give Ruben Amorim his 'Amad Diallo 2.0'
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has demanded his club sign a new left wing-back, and four players are on his shortlist.
Amorim has largely used Patrick Dorgu and Diego Dalot on the left flank this season, but he wants competition for the former, which would allow Dalot to play more in his natural position on the right.
With the club’s top two right wing-backs in Noussair Mazraoui and Amad Diallo leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations soon, the Man Utd boss will want to boost the depth out wide.
Speaking after Man Utd's disappointing loss to Everton in November, the Portuguese insisted that he needs a "second Amad Diallo" for the left side of his system.
Amorim’s shortlist includes one of his former Sporting CP stalwarts, according to TEAMtalk Graeme Bailey.
Amorim targets four wing-backs
Man Utd recently sent scouts to watch Sporting’s Maxi Araujo, a 25-year-old Uruguayan who has seven goals and five assists in 55 appearances across all competitions in his Sporting career.
Araujo and Amorim crossed paths in Lisbon for a short period in 2024, between the player’s arrival at the club and Amorim’s departure for the red side of Manchester.
The Uruguayan international likes to attack, as he ranks in the top 10% of fullbacks the following per-90-minute stats: goals (0.24), xG (0.20), shots (1.57), touches in the attacking penalty area (4.10), fouls won (2.05), and duels won (6.76).
He is also above average in assists per 90 minutes (0.12), cross completion rate (31.8%), tackles won per 90 (2.53), and fouls committed per 90 (2.17).
The other wing-backs on Man Utd’s list are Benfica’s Samuel Dahl, Lorient’s Arsene Kouassi, and Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys.
Dahl, a 22-year-old Sweden international, likes to involve himself in build-up play.
He ranks in the top 15% of fullbacks in touches, successful passes, pass completion rate, tackles won, and ball recoveries. He has three goal involvements in 27 games this season, and he has five assists in 22 appearances last season.
Kouassi, who is 21 years old and from Burkina Faso, is in the midst of his first season of top-flight football. He has a goal and three assists in 16 Ligue 1 appearances.
His national team will compete in AFCON, which makes him a long-term option, but his dribbling, duel-winning, and chance-creating abilities could make him worth the wait.
At 20, Club Brugge’s Seys is the youngest player on the list, but he is also the most prolific and has Champions League experience.
Seys has three goals and two assists in nine Champions League matches this season, and he also has a goal and an assist in 17 Belgian First Division matches.
