Chelsea get DEFINITIVE transfer update on Mike Maignan
Chelsea are no longer in the frame to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, another source has confirmed.
The Blues attempted to sign the France international in the summer, and even managed to agree personal terms with him. However, AC Milan did not want to settle for a cut-price fee and priced Chelsea out of a move.
The West London club were not prepared to pay over the odds for a player who is out of contract in 2026 and left the talks. Despite this, Chelsea have continued to be linked with the goalkeeper.
Maignan was clear in his desire to make the move to Stamford Bridge, and he reportedly remains keen even now. The problem, though, is that this is no longer a reciprocal attraction.
Chelsea viewed Maignan as a market opportunity for 2025 rather than an absolute necessity. The Blues are content with their goalkeeper options, and they are looking forward to the return of Mike Penders from his Strasbourg loan.
Maignan to Chelsea definitely off
Gazzetta dello Sport has become the latest publication to confirm that Chelsea have "withdrawn" from the race to sign Maignan, who is being chased by a host of clubs due to his availability on a free transfer.
The Italian outlet, which until recently continued to link Enzo Maresca's side with a move for the Frenchman, reports that it is no longer set in stone that Maignan will leave in 2026.
Although it had been assumed that he would not extend his contract, it is posited that Milan's positive development under Massimiliano Allegri could prompt him to reconsider.
Milan remain in the Scudetto race and are on course to return to the Champions League next season, potentially allowing them to offer Maignan a larger salary in a bid to convince him to stay.
However, while this remains in the air, one thing is certain: Chelsea will not be involved in the battle for his signature in 2026.
