Chelsea in love with 'special' €100m winger
Chelsea have been left hugely impressed with the development of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, according to a report.
The Ivorian youngster moved to Germany in the summer and already enjoyed a sparkling reputation when he signed for RB Leipzig. Although spending a €20 million fee on an 18-year-old from the Spanish second-tier was viewed as a major risk, his evident potential generated excitement.
So far, it is fair to say that Diomande has lived up to his price tag. Of course, the teenager is still raw in certain aspects of his game, but Leipzig are nothing short of delighted with their investment.
Their major summer rebuild has gone better than most would have expected, and Diomande has been a key reason behind their resurgence under new coach Ole Werner. In 10 appearances across all competitions, the teenage speedster has notched three goals and three assists.
The 18-year-old made his senior Ivory Coast debut during the last international break and scored in both of his outings for his country, which included an impressive 3-0 win over Kenya.
Chelsea keeping tabs on Diomande
According to Graeme Bailey, Diomande's explosion is not going unnoticed across Europe, and Chelsea, in particular, are said to have been left impressed with the right-footed winger, who can play on both flanks.
“Diomande is special, Chelsea know all about him," Bailey told The Chelsea Chronicle. "Indeed, I am told they are one of the clubs who saw him in Spain before Leipzig swooped.
“His progress has been startling. Chelsea love a wide player and their scouts have been hugely impressed with Diomande. He is one we need to keep an eye on.”
However, it will not be easy to prise Diomande away from Leipzig. The Red Bulls know that they have a gem on their hands, and given their significant outlay on him, they want to see a pretty penny to let him leave.
Sky Germany recently reported that the Bundesliga side has already slapped a €100m price tag on the teenager to deter any potential suitors in 2026.
