Enzo Fernandez confirms he HELPED Chelsea complete Moises Caicedo signing
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has confirmed that he helped the club complete the signing of Moises Caicedo in 2023.
The Argentina international arrived at Stamford Bridge from Benfica following a string of immense performances at the Qatar World Cup and Caicedo joined him at the club seven months later.
The Brighton & Hove Albion star was heavily linked with both Arsenal and Liverpool, but he eventually completed a blockbuster move to Chelsea for a fee of €116 million after a stellar spell at the AMEX Stadium.
Caicedo has since established himself as one of the best players in world football and he has enjoyed a sensational start to the 2025-26 season, scoring four goals and providing one assist from a defensive midfield role.
Fernandez has now confirmed that Chelsea leaned on his help to convince Caicedo to snub both Arsenal and Liverpool two years ago.
When asked about his relationship with the Ecuador midfielder, Fernandez admitted to Koora Break: “The connection is that when I found out Chelsea wanted him, obviously I was the first to call him because, being South American, the club also asked me on their behalf to try to talk to Moi so that he would come.
“Obviously I did and I wanted to bring in an incredible player like Moi who contributes a lot to the team.”
Fernandez added: “We know what's good, everyone knows what it is, and also the humility he has, right? Also in everyday life, a boy who always wants to learn, who tries to help you.
“The connection is very good, obviously much better now that the years are passing. We shared many moments off the field too, and honestly, I feel very comfortable with a great relationship and a great connection on the field.”
Enzo Fernandez reveals thoughts on Chelsea transfer
Fernandez also opened up on his move to Chelsea on January Transfer Deadline Day in 2023.
“It was a month of a lot of chaos,” he admitted. “Transfers that were happening, transfers that weren't happening. I was very young at that time too. The truth is that incredible things were happening to me in football, but at that time, obviously, that month was all very crazy because one week I was going to Chelsea, the next week I wasn't going.
“That's how it was until the end of the month. It ended up happening on the last day of the market, a very high-value transfer and well, I think it was as it was and I tried to obviously enjoy it in the last few weeks. If it happened, great, and if it didn't, in the end I was at a club like Benfica that gave me everything, but it was crazy. It finally happened.
“Today I am in Chelsea. I went through an incredible process here at the club with many changes and today I feel very good with a group of people who are my team-mates, with whom I share every day, with the coaching staff. The truth is that I feel very happy today.”
