Casemiro decision costs Man Utd €100m
Casemiro is ready to take a decision that will cost Manchester United more than €100 million and pose head coach Ruben Amorim a major headache, according to a report in Spain.
The Brazil international star has been a huge piece of the resurgence of the Red Devils under the Portuguese this season, despite his future at Old Trafford being very much under question in the summer.
Out of contract at the end of June 2026, Casemiro will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he signs a new deal.
Man Utd are willing to offer him fresh terms, but with the former Real Madrid star turning 34 early next year, they want to slash his salary.
Casemiro is ready to turn down a drastically reduced wage, Defensa Central indicates. It claims that the South American is being told to he faces a wage reduction from £350,000 per week to £130,000, a figure the Spanish source brands as “ridiculous”.
In turn, this will force the Red Devils into the transfer market.
Aurelien Tchouameni is Man Utd’s preferred Casemiro replacement
While reports have typically linked Man Utd with the likes of Elliott Anderson, Adam Wharton or Carlos Baleba, the Spanish source says that Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni has emerged as Amorim’s preferred option to take up Casemiro’s role.
The France international midfielder was ultimately the Brazilian’s heir at the Bernabeu, where he has been one of Xabi Alonso’s most important players in the early weeks of his reign.
Prising Tchouameni away from Real Madrid, then, promises to be a difficult challenge. Alonso is currently firefighting in the Bernabeu dressing room, with several senior players unhappy at the discipline levels he has installed for the squad. Tchouameni is not reported to be one of those disgruntled stars.
While Los Blancos are unlikely to sell willingly, it is hinted that they could accept an offer in the region of €100m.
Tchouameni has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €73m, having signed from Monaco in 2022 for €80m.
