Man Utd OFFERED Barcelona star in position Amorim wants to strengthen
Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The Germany international goalkeeper was involved in a long-running transfer saga with the Catalan club in the summer but ultimately remained with the Camp Nou club.
A serious injury has since struck the 33-year-old but his return is forecast for December. But although Ter Stegen will be fit again, his prospects of getting any game time at Barcelona look scant.
Hansi Flick’s side recruited Joan Garcia to fill their goal this season, and there are no signs that the former Espanyol keeper will make way for the veteran, whose large wage is an impediment to his club’s already difficult financial situation.
Ter Stegen has therefore been left with two options: stay at Barcelona with little chance of playing or look for a loan that might provide him with an opportunity to make Germany’s World Cup squad.
Amorim to make Lammens decision
Man Utd have been offered the opportunity to sign Ter Stegen on loan, according to Sport, which also indicates that Besiktas have already made a proposal to the goalkeeper. Monaco are also interested.
But the link with the Old Trafford side is particularly interesting given that it comes at a time when Ruben Amorim is being actively linked with potential new recruits in goal.
These rumours have risen despite Senne Lammens starting impressively since arriving at Man Utd from Royal Antwerp in the summer.
Ter Stegen would represent a more experienced figure to guide the Red Devils as they seek a return to the Champions League, but his arrival would likely come at some cost to the young Belgian, who is gaining both momentum and form.
For that reason, United are unlikely to take up any offer from Barcelona on this occasion, yet if Lammens was to sustain an injury between now and the January transfer window, it would be little surprise to see Amorim revisit this opportunity.
