Arsenal and Man Utd battle for €30m teenage wonderkid
Arsenal and Manchester United are among a string of major clubs who are interested in signing wonderkid Christos Mouzakitis from Olympiakos.
Nicolo Schira reports that there is tremendous interest from the Premier League in the central midfielder, who will turn 19 on Christmas Day.
Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are also tracking the player from England’s top-flight, while Napoli are also following the teen star.
Olympiacos have put a €30 million price tag on Mouzakitis ahead of January, even with the player’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently sitting only at €16.2m.
The Premier League sides are “leading the race” for the player, according to the Italian transfer specialist.
Christos Mouzakitis: What makes him so special?
Mouzakitis has already won seven international caps for Greece, highlighting his current quality despite his young age.
He is primarily a box-to-box player when playing for his club side but is a multi-talented central midfielder and can operate in different styles from the heart of the field.
His statistical profile shows that he is highly effective when in possession and is particularly happy to take the ball from the centre-backs to start his team’s attacks.
Data analytics firm SciSports shows he was one of the best-performing central midfielders in the Greek Super League last season, despite starting the campaign as a 17-year-old. His rise has been rapid.

What decision should he take?
Manchester United are seen as the best option for Mouzakitis among the Premier League clubs interested in signing him.
SciSports give the Old Trafford side a Club Fit score of 70 based on his potential to develop, his immediate playing time, style and formation. While the Red Devils are seen as a strong destination for him realising his potential, Ruben Amorim’s system is not thought to be one that would suit him, however.
In contrast, Arsenal only earn a Club Fit score of 65. While Mikel Arteta’s side are a better fit in terms of their formation for Mouzakitis, there SciSports is concerned about a lack of playing time and limited development opportunities for him.
Christos Mouzakitis: Club Fit (SciSports)
| Club | Club Fit |
|---|---|
| Napoli | 84 |
| Man Utd | 70 |
| Nottingham Forest | 69 |
| Arsenal | 65 |
| Aston Villa | 62 |
Napoli, though, are seen as his best option. Antonio Conte’s side score a mammoth 84 in Club Fit.
Both United and Arsenal are known to be interested in central midfielders, and the opportunity to pick up one of Europe’s most promising players in the form of Mouzakitis for a relative bargain price of €30m is certainly an attractive prospect.
