Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has outlined what his plans amid rumours that he could leave the Emirates Stadium.

Signed for more than €50 million from Manchester City in 2022, the Brazil international has spent much of the year injured.

With the Gunners having added Viktor Gyokeres to their ranks to act as their first-choice No.9, Gabriel Jesus’ place at the club is under serious threat.

Initially, it was thought that Arsenal were ready to sanction the sale of the 28-year-old hitman, but now reports have emerged that indicate that Mikel Arteta wants to retain the centre-forward at least until the end of the season to provide support to Gyokeres as the North London side aim to end their long Premier League title drought.

Gabriel Jesus has now announced what he wants in store for his future as he plans his return to competitive action after 10 months on the sidelines.

Gabriel Jesus goes public on Palmeiras transfer wish

Speaking to Revista Placar, the striker denied claims that he is about to return to Palmeiras in the January transfer window – but he did indicate that it is his “desire” to one day return to his former club.

He said: “After such a complex surgery, it makes no sense for me to leave Arsenal now.

“There was never contact with another club. My desire, as I always say, is to return to Palmeiras. And Palmeiras also want me to come back.

“When I feel it’s the right time to go back to Palmeiras, I’ll decide that with Arsenal.”

Arsenal decision looms

After nearly a year on the sidelines, Gabriel Jesus’ Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has plummeted to just €20.6m.

With little over a year left on his Arsenal contract, the next six months will go a long way to determining what will happen for the remainder of his career.

A strong contribution to a Premier League title run could earn him an extension at the Emirates Stadium, but if he struggles to make an impact, the Gunners are likely to cut him loose in the summer.
