Marcus Rashford makes ‘small gesture’ that could decide his Barcelona future
Marcus Rashford looks increasingly likely to remain at Barcelona beyond the end his loan spell from Manchester United, Fabrizio Romano has indicated.
Rashford found himself frozen out at Man Utd after a disagreement with Ruben Amorim, and after spending the second half of last season at Aston Villa, has regained his top form with Barca.
The 27-year-old has five goals and six assists for the Catalan side in 12 appearances, marking a real return to form after months of difficulty at Old Trafford.
But it’s not just been Rashford’s on-field production that has impressed Barcelona. His attitude – something that was regularly questioned at Man Utd – has also been excellent, according to insiders, and Romano has outlined one “small gesture” that the striker made in the 6-1 Champions League win over Olympiacos that particularly impressed.
“Inside the club, everyone – the board, management, technical staff - are very happy with Rashford. They appreciate not only his goals and assists, but also his attitude,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“For example, after the Olympiacos game, Rashford - who scored twice - gave the ball to Fermin Lopez to celebrate his goal. These are small gestures, but Barcelona notice them.
“He’s popular in the dressing room, fits perfectly in Hansi Flick’s system, and there’s a growing feeling that if he continues like this, he could stay beyond this season.”
Will Rashford stay at Barcelona?
Romano says that no decision has been made with regards Rashford’s long-term future yet, but it is looking increasingly likely that he will remain.
He added: “Rashford had to reduce his salary to make the move possible - but that’s not seen as a big issue for the future. Talks about a permanent deal will happen later - not now, not in October or November - but the start has been excellent.
“So yes, there’s a real chance to see Marcus Rashford continue at Barcelona beyond the 2025/26 season.”
Given Rashford has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €54.5m, Barcelona are in line for a transfer bargain.
