Man Utd set for MAJOR cash boost amid Barcelona scouting mission
Barcelona scouts were left impressed by former Man Utd attacker Mason Greenwood at the weekend.
Sport report that Barca sent scouts to watch Marseille's match against Le Havre on Saturday.
And the report says they were lefy very impressed by Greenwood, who thundered home a brilliant four goals in the 6-2 win for Marseille.
While the report acknowledges that financially this is a diffuclt deal to do, Greenwood remains a player admired by Barcelona.
Were Barca to pursue him, it would open up the possibility of Greenwood rejoining his former Man Utd teammate Marcus Rashford at Camp Nou.
Greenwood to Barcelona?
Greenwood has been linked to Barcelona in the past and he is enjoying another excellent season with seven goals in 10 games so far.
Last season he scored 22 goals in all competitions after joining Marseille from Man Utd.
Before that he also shone for Getafe on loan.
Man Utd actually have a 50 per cent sell-on clause in Greenwood's Marseille's contract so would benefit from the player leaving the Ligue 1 side.
Greenwood left Man Utd for Marseille in the summer of 2024, as the French side paid €26 million, with an additional €5m in add-ons and 50 per cent sell-on clause.
Greenwood, who signed a five year deal at Marseille, was put up for sale by Man Utd after it became clear it was impossible for him to continue his career at Old Trafford.
Greenwood hadn’t played for Man Utd since he was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault.
The Englishman’s charges were dropped after key witnesses pulled out and he returned to football with a loan spell at Spanish side Getafe in the 2023-24 season.
He scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 36 appearances for the club as they finished 12th in the LaLiga table.
Greenwood scored 35 goals in 129 games for Man Utd and was expected to become a key player for club and country until his off-field problems.
