Chelsea are ready to pay over €100 million for long-term target Samu Aghehowa, according to a bombshell report in Spain.

The 21-year-old was on the verge of joining Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in 2024, with the Spaniard expected to arrive in west London in exchange for Conor Gallagher.

However, the final details of the deal failed to be agreed with the player and the transfer collapsed. Instead, Chelsea re-signed Joao Felix on a permanent deal, in order to finalise Gallagher’s move to Atletico Madrid, and Aghehowa joined Porto.

The Spain international, who now has three senior caps for his country, scored 27 goals in 45 games during his debut season with the Portuguese giants and he has already netted on eight occasions in just nine appearances so far this campaign.

Chelsea have kept tabs on Aghehowa’s development since his failed move to Stamford Bridge and they are now ready to submit an offer in excess of €100m next summer, according to Fichajes.

Porto are reluctant to part ways with the 21-year-old, however Chelsea reportedly view him as a key transfer target and they are willing to make him one of their most expensive signings of all time.

Aston Villa have also been linked with the Spain star this year, but it appears as though Chelsea are the frontrunners for his signature as things stand.

Joao Pedro’s worrying recent form

News of Chelsea’s renewed interest in Aghehowa comes amid Joao Pedro’s recent downturn in form.

The Brazil international scored five goals in his first six matches for Enzo Maresca’s side, however he has failed to find the back of the net in seven consecutive games, and the absence of both Liam Delap and Cole Palmer through injury means he is rarely afforded a rest.

Emanuel Emegha will arrive from Strasbourg to provide additional attacking depth next summer, but Chelsea are still reportedly keeping tabs on Aghehowa ahead of a possible bid.
