Bruno Fernandes issues HUGE Man Utd transfer verdict
Bruno Fernandes has confirmed his delight at Manchester United’s decision to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo for €75 million during the recent summer transfer window.
Mbeumo was identified as a priority target following a stellar 2024-25 season and Ruben Amorim’s side fought off significant competition from both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur to secure his signature in July.
The Cameroon international has started all five of Man Utd’s Premier League fixtures so far this campaign, scoring once, and he has already established himself as a vital player under Amorim.
Mbeumo produced another eye-catching display during the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday evening and although he failed to register a goal contribution, he received a standing ovation following his substitution in the 69th minute.
Fernandes was also impressed by the 26-year-old’s performance at Old Trafford and he took to Instagram to display his affection for Mbeumo.
In response to a post from the Cameroon winger, Fernandes commented: “What a player” to confirm his delight at the signing.
Man Utd’s summer transfer business
In addition to Mbeumo, Man Utd also completed the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens and Diego Leon during the summer transfer window, with the club spending a total of €250.7m after failing to qualify for European football last season.
However, the Red Devils were unable to finalise a deal for top target Carlos Baleba. Brighton & Hove Albion set an asking price in excess of €115m (£100m) for the Cameroon superstar and Man Utd opted against lodging a concrete approach, despite the need to sign a new central midfielder.
Man Utd have been tipped to rekindle their interest in Baleba next summer, although multiple reports suggest that Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is set to be targeted in January amid his immense form at the City Ground.
