Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Amorim SACK update, Jackson TRUTH, Rashford LATEST
The 2025 summer window may be over for clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, but Fabrizio Romano has dropped another transfer update on Ruben Amorim, Nicolas Jackson and Marcus Rashford.
Marcus Rashford at Barcelona
“Marcus Rashford is the man of the week with the brace against Newcastle,” Romano told his YouTube channel. “I told you about the satisfaction of Barcelona about Rashford. It’s not just about the games, it's about the attitude, it's about the performances and it's about the training.
“Barcelona are very happy with Rashford and remember that for €30 million, they have a buy option clause included in the deal from Manchester United.
“Barcelona played tonight and Rashford was not in the starting XI despite the absence of Lamine Yamal for injury. That is because Rashford arrived quite late in the last training session before the game. So, Hansi Flick is very clear about that.
“Last week it was Raphinha, this week it’s Rashford. For him it is very clear, even if you are a few minutes late, as was the case for Rashford, players don't start. Being in the starting XI is something that is no longer guaranteed when a player arrives late.”
Barcelona transfer update
Meanwhile, Romano also clarified the latest transfer update regarding Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski.
“Frenkie de Jong decided to leave his previous agent,” the transfer expert said. “Now he is in control of his future and his intention is to sign a new contract at Barcelona.
“De Jong has always been very happy at Barca. You probably remember a few years ago with Erik ten Hag Man Utd we had several stories, several rumours on the future of De Jong. But, despite interest from England and Bayern Munich, De Jong has always had this big desire to be at Barcelona and to be an important part of the Barcelona squad.
“Now he is a crucial part of the Barcelona squad and Hansi Flick is very happy with him and the same for the president Joan Laporta and the director Deco. And so my expectation is that De Jong will sign a new contract at Barcelona.
“There is a conversation and negotiation ongoing and there is optimism because Barcelona and Frenkie want to continue together.”
Romano added: “For Robert Lewandowski, this is not something that is going to be decided today, tomorrow or in September. Barcelona and Lewandowski are very happy together and in the next months, they will decide together what they want to do.
“If Lewandowski wants to continue in Europe, if Lewandowski wants to try something different, if Barcelona want to sign a new striker or not. So there will be several topics to discuss, but Lewandowski could have the opportunity to leave, but this depends on what the player wants to do and on what Barcelona want to do.
“Leandowski and Flick, for example, share the same agent, so the relationship is excellent between all the parties involved: manager, player, agent and club.
“This will be assessed and discussed in the next months but for sure the situation of Lewandowski will be one of the topics to control and understand in the next months - not in September and I feel not even in October or probably November. So it is going to take some time. “
Ruben Amorim to be sacked by Man Utd?
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United secured an important victory over Chelsea on Saturday and Romano has confirmed that INEOS aren’t in talks to replace the 40-year-old.
“Manchester United beat Chelsea and so there is a bit less pressure for Ruben Amorim after a complicated week,” Romano revealed. “I told you a few days ago that Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Carrington to meet directly face to face with Amorim. They were not talking about changing the system, so what Amorim said in the press conference was the reality - Ratliffe didn't go there and say ‘you change the system or why don't you change the system?’
“Ratcliffe is a very smart man and he's never going to influence the manager on the tactical point of view or on the philosophy. He just wants to understand and he wants to be present.
"He was in the stands for the Manchester derby and for the game against Chelsea and he was present at Carrington before the game to talk with the manager. He wants to understand. He wants to help to make sure everything is going in the best direction possible for the club.
“From what I'm told, Ratcliffe will be absolutely super present again this week, absolutely monitoring everything and he wants to make sure that everything is going in the right direction. So this is the reason - not to influence the system, not to influence the tactics, but to make sure that Man Utd are going in the right direction.
“Let me say that again that Amorim, at the moment, feels this support. Man Utd, even in the last few days before the Chelsea game, never approached any other coach. We heard many names obviously when there are big names on the market. It's quite obvious to link them with Man Utd, but there was never any conversation started because they maintain their confidence in Amarim.
“Obviously they want to see more and the next games will also be important to show how the situation changed. But for sure, it was an important win for Ruben in future and for Man Utd.”
Nicolas Jackson’s Chelsea career over?
Finally, Romano also confirmed that Nicolas Jackson is extremely unlikely to ever play for Chelsea again following his loan move to Bayern Munich and the Blues’ signing of Emanuel Emegha from Strasbourg.
“Many of you are asking me what will be the impact of Emanuel Emegha to Chelsea for Nicolas Jackson. I think that in football, never say never because there could be new managers or new agents, so in football never say never. But if you ask me today, the feeling is that Jackson will not play for Chelsea anymore - the story is completely over unless something extraordinary or special happens.
“He’s now at Bayern, they have this buy option clause that might become an obligation and so Bayern will be free to decide for €65m whether they want to sign Jackson in summer 2026 or not.
“I wanted to say the feeling at Chelsea is that with Jackson is over, Emegha will get that place as that kind of striker. Chelsea see a big potential in Emegha and this is why they decided to prepare this deal for 2026.”
