€70m Premier League ace 'expected' to agree deal after Chelsea talks
Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is 'expected' to sign a contract extension after receiving interest from Newcastle and Chelsea this summer.
The Norway international emerged as a top target for Newcastle in their search for an Alexander Isak replacement after they were snubbed by Benjamin Sesko and a host of other targets.
Strand Larsen was almost an emergency option for the Magpies as he had not really been on their radar before the summer. The St. James' Park club failed with two big-money bids and were ready to offer as much as €70 million.
However, this third bid never came as Wolves were unwavering in their stance that they would not sanction a late-window departure of their starting No.9, forcing Newcastle to pursue Nick Woltemade instead. He ultimately joined in a deal reportedly worth up to €90m.
It recently came to light that Chelsea also tested the waters for Strand Larsen. On the Sunday before Deadline Day, they made contact with the player's representatives but were told that it was too late for a deal. The Blues viewed him as an injury replacement for Liam Delap.
Strand Larsen to sign new Wolves deal
According to The Telegraph, Strand Larsen is now set to be rewarded with a bumper new contract by Wolves. Although he was keen on a move to Newcastle, the 25-year-old refused to kick up a fuss like Isak or Yoane Wissa.
The Norway striker is 'expected' to put pen to paper on improved terms to commit his long-term future to the Molineux club. Talks over this new deal have begun now that the window is closed.
The report states that Wolves are reluctant to grant Strand Larsen a release clause after losing Matheus Cunha to Man Utd due to a €74m exit clause, and discussions with the striker are likely to be more straightforward than they were with the Brazilian over the winter.
Strand Larsen only joined Wolves from Celta Vigo permanently this summer after impressing on loan last season. He scored 14 Premier League goals last term.
