Confirmed: Chelsea have already signed their next superstar striker
Chelsea have spent an inordinate amount of money since the arrival of Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly in 2022, and their divisive transfer strategy is unlikely to change anytime soon.
In fact, the Blues have agreed to sign Geovany Quenda and Denner for a combined fee of €60.8 million next summer, while Strasbourg centre forward Emanuel Emegha is also widely expected to join the club.
Chelsea already have Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu as striker options at the club, and Nicolas Jackson is set to return to Stamford Bridge next year after Bayern Munich confirmed they won’t be purchasing him on a permanent deal.
However, despite the Blues’ interest in Emegha and the options currently available to Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s next superstar striker may well be plying his trade in the club’s famed academy.
The west London giants have one of the best academies in world football and Shumaira Mheuka could be the next breakout star to emerge from the club’s Cobham facility.
The England U19 international joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee of €1.2 million at just 14 years old and he has progressed extremely well since his arrival in 2022.
Shim Mheuka: Chelsea’s next superstar striker?
Mheuka has been considered as one of England’s brightest young prospects for several years and he has enjoyed a simply sublime start to the 2025-26 season.
He netted a hat-trick against Manchester City during Chelsea’s opening fixture of the new Premier League 2 campaign, while he subsequently scored versus both Newcastle United and Shrewsbury Town.
The 17-year-old has captained Chelsea’s U21 side in each of their first four matches of the season, despite being several years younger than some of his peers, and he also netted three goals in two games for the England U19 national team during the September international break.
As a result, Mheuka, who has made five first-team appearances for Chelsea, has scored eight goals in just six games for club and country so far this campaign.
His stature, movement, close control and ability to wrestle with defenders also suggests that Mheuka wouldn’t struggle with the step up to senior football.
At just 17 years old, Mheuka is unlikely to break into the Chelsea starting XI just yet, especially considering the form of the aforementioned Pedro, but the Blues would be wise to provide a clear pathway to regular first-team minutes.
After all, Maresca’s side lost Rio Ngumoha to Liverpool last year and Mheuka could be the next talented youngster to depart the club if Chelsea aren’t careful.
