The transfer window closed around Europe’s biggest leagues a week ago, but deals are still being done while plans are being made for January and beyond, as Fabrizio Romano explains.

Surprise detail of Onana’s Trabzonspor move

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to receive a pay rise when he completes his move to Trabzonspor, Romano claims.

In a revelation that comes as a major shock, given the overall performance of the Cameroon goalkeeper, the football transfer news insider explained on his YouTube channel:

“The deal is agreed between all parties and is even agreed on the player’s side. He’s signed his contract. It’s a loan deal. It doesn’t include a buy-option clause. He’ll return to Manchester United next summer. It doesn’t include any fee. Trabzonspor will pay part of the salary.

“His salary will be slightly higher than the salary he has at Manchester United. There will be something in addition as a signing fee for Onana. He’s already accepted this.

“What’s needed now is for Man Utd to exchange all the documents and sign all the contracts. Then the plan from Onana’s side is to travel to Turkey on Thursday. He’ll then sign his contract and then be announced as a new Trabzonspor player.”

Romano added that Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim wanted Onana off the books.

He continued: “Senne Lammens will immediately have a big opportunity to start in the first goalkeeper slow and probably start after spending €21m plus add-ons from Royal Antwerp. The three goalkeepers for Man Utd are: Lammens, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, who extended his contract a few weeks ago.

“This is a decision by Ruben Amorim. He wanted to clarify this situation. He said that internally, having four goalkeepers, including a keeper like Onana being on the bench, was going to be a problem. Maybe it could be a source of pressure for Senne Lammens. So everyone at Man Utd agreed on the possibility to send Onana on loan, give him the chance to start on a regular basis.”

Who will be Bayer Leverkusen’s next coach?

Leverkusen are close to finding a replacement for Erik ten Hag after the former Man Utd boss was sacked less than a month into the competitive season.

“It’s an important week for Bayer Leverkusen, who are searching for a new manager. What we need to clarify is the new manager,” Romano says.

“They’ve considered a move for Ange Postecoglou as something very concrete. He was considered internally, but the understanding is that Leverkusen are not advancing on this one. Ange remains available.

“Instead, they held a positive meeting for a 53-year-old Danish coach, Kasper Hjulmand. Now he’s the clear favourite to become the new coach. There are still some details to clarify before it’s done, but he’s the clear favourite. The meeting was very positive.

“Let’s wait for the conversations to evolve.”

Liverpool’s Guehi plan

After missing out on Marc Guehi at the last in the transfer window, Liverpool have been quick to formulate a new plan for the England centre-back.

Romano explains: “Marc Guehi will not sign a new contract with Crystal Palace. You can imagine that the season can change, but as of today, the intention of Liverpool is to go for Guehi as a free agent and not to go for him in the January transfer window. If something happens in the next months, Liverpool can decide to revisit that decision.

“Liverpool are not happy with what happened on Deadline Day. There will be competition from Spain, Italy, Germany and England as well. For sure, there will be many clubs willing to enter the race and tell him that they will pay a bigger wage or signing fee than Liverpool.

“Liverpool will be there, but the intention is to go for Guehi in 2026 as a free agent.”

This comes amid claims that Guehi could be ready to prioritise a move to Real Madrid.

Rashford rumours are ‘bulls**t’

Amid claims that Barcelona are ready to terminate Marcus Rashford’s loan from Man Utd after a poor start to life at the club, Romano has shot back decisively.

He says: “I don’t know where this story is coming from. There’s zero into it. Barcelona are very happy with Rashford and the deal they did. They’re happy with the attitude of Rashford. Barca are waiting for him to erupt. But the club and the player are completely aligned.

“The reports of Barcelona terminating Rashford’s deal early is complete bulls**t. There’s nothing in it.”
