Marc Guehi drops 'BOMBSHELL' Liverpool transfer update
Liverpool have been given a “bombshell” update on the future of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
The Reds missed out on the England centre-back on Deadline Day when it appeared that he would be heading to Anfield. Instead, Arne Slot’s side were left frustrated as Palace pulled the plug on the deal shortly before the transfer window closed.
Now Liverpool have been given what amounts to an ultimatum from the 25-year-old, who has warned the Reds that he is willing to join Real Madrid.
“The truth is that the footballer has already told those around him what his priority is: if Liverpool cannot fit him into their project as Ibrahima Konate’s replacement, his preference would be to wear white and land at the Santiago Bernabeu,” Fichajes reports.
The message from Guehi is clear: either he joins Liverpool as a starter, or he tries his luck at Real Madrid. As a free agent able to talk terms with clubs from 1 January, the choice will be his.
Guehi or Konate at Liverpool - not both
Guehi’s path seems to hinge on the future of Konate, according to the Spanish source.
Real Madrid have been courting the France international defender for months. Konate is in dispute with Liverpool over a new deal and could also leave for free at the end of the season. If this is the case, the way would be open for Guehi to join the Reds as his replacements.
If Konate remains at Liverpool, however, it appears that the England international would be more willing to move to Los Blancos in what is described as a “bombshell” decision in Spain.
With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba both out of contract at the Bernabeu next summer, there is a desperate need for a couple of new options for Xabi Alonso’s side. Konate is their priority but it seems that Guehi is being strongly considered as an alternative should he not get the starting guarantee that he wants at Liverpool.
