Liverpool may have only won one Premier League title during the competition’s existence, but they remain one of England’s very biggest clubs.

The Reds’ triumph in the 2005 Champions League final was followed by a period of very little domestic success and Fenway Sports Group (FSG) purchased the club in October 2010.

Although Liverpool remained near mid-table obscurity for several years, they soon mounted a title charge under Brendan Rodgers before Jurgen Klopp was hired in October 2015.

Since then, Liverpool have been the closest challengers to Manchester City - although Klopp announced his departure at the end of the 2023-24 season - and they have been forced to spend big in order to achieve that.

How much have Liverpool spent on transfers under FSG?

Liverpool have spent a total of €1.4741 billion (€1,474.1 million) on transfers since FSG took over in 2010.

After taking charge in October 2010, FSG spent €67.5 million on transfers during their first transfer window as Liverpool owners (2011 January window), although their two big-money arrivals enjoyed varying degrees of success at Anfield.

Andy Carroll failed to impress, while Luis Suarez went on to become one of their greatest ever signings.

After several years of spending under €75m, FSG began investing heavily in 2014. Liverpool spent €149.4m during the 2014-15 season, followed by €127.5m in 2015-16.

Their biggest spending season came in 2018-19, however. The Reds splashed a whopping €182.5m on new signings that year, adding the likes of Alisson, Naby Keita and Fabinho.

Darwin Nunez is Liverpool’s most expensive signing under FSG. The Uruguayan forward joined the Reds from Benfica for a fee of €85m in 2022.

He overtook Virgil van Dijk to top spot, with the Dutchman demoted to second courtesy of his €84.7m transfer from Southampton in 2018.

Dominik Szoboszlai (€70m) is Liverpool’s third most expensive signing since FSG became owners, while Alisson (€62.5m) and Naby Keita (€60m) complete the top five.

Philippe Coutinho is Liverpool’s most expensive sale under FSG. The Brazilian midfielder left the Reds to join Barcelona for a fee of €135m in 2018.

Luis Suarez is the second biggest Liverpool sale under FSG. He also joined Barcelona, this time for €81.7m in 2014.

Raheem Sterling (€63.7m) is Liverpool’s third most expensive sale since FSG became owners, while Fernando Torres (€58.5m) and Fabinho (€46.7m) complete the top five.
