Cole Palmer gets transfer wish after harsh criticism
Cole Palmer could be reunited with his former Manchester City academy team-mate Morgan Rogers next year as Chelsea continue to monitor the England star’s development.
Rogers, 23, was on Chelsea’s radar during the summer transfer window, however they opted to prioritise a move for Xavi Simons instead and were ultimately left empty-handed when the Dutchman chose to join Tottenham Hotspur.
In response, Chelsea finalised a one-year loan deal for Facundo Buonanotte and he is expected to provide cover for the aforementioned Palmer throughout the 2025-26 campaign.
However, signing a long-term fix is on Chelsea’s agenda for 2026 and Rogers is among their primary targets.
The England international, who has established himself as a regular in the national team under new boss Thomas Tuchel, won the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season and Chelsea are huge admirers of the attacker, as confirmed by multiple reports over the summer.
Rogers’ versatility is seen as a key trait by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy and he is viewed as a player capable of providing depth across multiple attacking positions - in a similar vein to Joao Pedro.
Reports have indicated that Chelsea would even be willing to spend €100 million to bring the 23-year-old to west London next year, and Aston Villa could feasibly be open to a sale if his current form continues.
Aston Villa to sell Morgan Rogers?
Rogers registered 30 goal contributions across all competitions last season, however he has endured a torrid start to the new campaign.
The former Middlesbrough attacker is yet to provide a goal or an assist in five Premier League matches and he was widely slammed by Aston Villa fans following his performance versus Sunderland on Sunday.
Rogers lost possession on 16 occasions at the Stadium of Light, while he only won two of his 11 attempted duels and he also failed to complete a single dribble.
In total, the England star has only won 17 of 56 duels so far this season, and fans have now completely turned on him.
One supporter posted on X: “Morgan Rogers, you’ve been disgracefully poor yet again lad. Pathetic,” while a second added: “Morgan Rogers is going to cost Unai Emery his job at this rate.”
A third simply said: “Another terrible performance from Morgan Rogers.”
Rogers, who is very close friends with Chelsea star Palmer, still has five years remaining on his current contract at Aston Villa, however the club may decide to cash in on the Englishman if his performances continue to underwhelm for the next few months.
