Kobbie Mainoo chooses next club: Man Utd left furious
Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly informed Manchester United that he wants to join Napoli on a permanent deal before the end of Transfer Deadline Day.
The England midfielder has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford in recent days, after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, and a last-minute exit could be on the cards amid significant interest in his services.
However, The Mirror now claim that Mainoo has told Man Utd officials that he would like to complete a permanent transfer to Napoli before the window closes at 19:00 BST on Monday.
The Serie A giants have already prepared a four-year contract for the England star, but Man Utd have blocked the deal as they are aware of the impact Scott McTominay had following his permanent move to Napoli last summer.
Despite this, Mainoo is reportedly “adamant” that he wants to leave Old Trafford and he believes that Antonio Conte could have a transformative impact on his career - similar to the one McTominay enjoyed under the Italian’s management last season.
Conte is also eager to add Mainoo to his squad as he targets a push for Serie A and Champions League silverware, and it’s understood that Man Utd would be willing to listen to suitable offers for the 20-year-old.
Kobbie Mainoo to leave Man Utd?
Mainoo is yet to feature in the Premier League so far this season, having been an unused substitute versus both Arsenal and Fulham, and he appears to be Amorim’s fourth-choice central midfielder, behind Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.
His current contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in 2027 and negotiations over a new long-term deal have stalled.
FootballTransfers understands that Brighton & Hove Albion are also interested in a potential deal for Mainoo, while Chelsea are known admirers of the midfielder.
