Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS huge Man Utd transfer agreement
Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as they look to finalise a late deal before the end of the summer transfer window.
Martinez, 32, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer transfer window and they have now stepped up their pursuit of his signature in a bid to land a replacement for Andre Onana.
The Cameroon international endured a torrid evening during Man Utd’s shock defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, while he is yet to feature for the Red Devils in the Premier League this term.
Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens is also on Man Utd’s transfer shortlist, however Ruben Amorim’s team haven’t finalised a deal for the Belgian and they are now pursuing a deal for Martinez.
That is according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Emiliano Martínez and approached Aston Villa!
“As exclusively revealed this morning, Dibu is back as concrete option for Man Utd if Lammens deal doesn’t happen. Talks well underway now.”
Martinez still has four years remaining on his current deal at Aston Villa, having signed a contract extension in October 2024, but Man Utd are pushing to bring him to Old Trafford amid their search for a new quality goalkeeper.
Villa, meanwhile, have identified Porto star Diogo Costa as a key target, as per multiple reports, and they are also eyeing a potential deal for the aforementioned Lammens if Man Utd opt to sign Martinez before Transfer Deadline Day ends at 19:00 BST on Monday.
Man Utd’s transfer plans
Man Utd are also interested in bringing a new central midfielder to the club this summer, however a deal now seems increasingly unlikely as the deadline edges ever closer.
Carlos Baleba is almost guaranteed to remain at Brighton & Hove Albion until at least next year, while fellow targets Adam Wharton, Lucien Agoume and Morten Hjulmand also appear unlikely to switch clubs before Deadline Day.
Man Utd have signed Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon so far this summer, while Alejandro Garnacho is the only player to have left the club for a transfer fee.
