David de Gea set for surprise Man Utd reunion - Fabrizio Romano
Victor Lindelof could be reunited with former Manchester United teammate David de Gea at Fiorentina, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Sweden international has been a free agent since being released by the Red Devils earlier this summer, and clubs have been slow to move for the defender.
There had been exploratory talks with Bayer Leverkusen, now coached by ex-Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag, but nothing came of these discussions. The lack of interest in Lindelof caused some concerns in his native Sweden, with national team boss Jon Dahl Tomasson stating that he can't call up the 31-year-old as long as he does not have a club.
Lindelof has been keeping himself fit at formative side Vasteras SK this summer, but a permanent return to the club was never planned. The centre-back still feels that he can play at a good European level.
At last, it now looks as though the situation could be resolved imminently, with Lindelof seemingly set to link up with long-time former Man Utd teammate David de Gea in Italy.
Fiorentina in talks to sign Lindelof
According to Fabrizio Romano, Fiorentina are in talks over what he calls a 'surprise' deal for Lindelof. Intriguingly, the transfer insider reveals that the Sweden international also has offers on the table from two Premier League sides.
Discussions over personal terms are in full swing, although it remains to be seen if Lindelof will make the move to Serie A or return to the Premier League.
De Gea will surely put in a good word for Fiorentina, with the Spaniard having thoroughly enjoyed his time with La Viola so far after a year of free agency following his exit from Man Utd in 2023.
This summer, De Gea turned down a move to Monaco and instead extended his contract with Fiorentina after being one of the best-performing goalkeepers in Italy last term. The Florence outfit are showing ambition in this window, having already spent €84 million on new recruits.
