284-game Man Utd star trains with relegated minnows amid lack of offers
Victor Lindelof is keeping himself fit at formative club Vasteras SK amid a lack of offers following his Manchester United exit.
The Sweden international is a free agent after the Red Devils opted against extending his contract. Lindelof left Old Trafford after eight years, in which he racked up 284 appearances.
For most of last season, it was clear that Lindelof would be released by Man Utd this summer, which gave him plenty of time to find a new club. The 31-year-old was officially allowed to negotiate a pre-contract with suitors in January.
However, fast forward to the middle of August, and Lindelof is still without a club. In fact, there appears to be a surprising lack of interest in one of Sweden's most reliable - albeit injury-prone - players.
Given the current state of affairs, Lindelof has been forced to keep himself fit at his former club Vasteras SK, not to be confused with his other ex-club Vasteras IK. The former were relegated from the Swedish top flight last season.
Lindelof to Bayer Leverkusen?
A full-time return to Vasteras SK does not appear to be on the cards for Lindelof just yet, although it may become an option for him in the twilight of his career.
It is clear, though, that the defender needs to find a club quickly if he wants to continue to represent his country. Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson believes that he can't pick Lindelof for the upcoming international games unless he finds a new employer.
"In a perfect world, he would be available, would have played the whole pre-season and all the matches. But that's not the case. These are things we have to deal with, and that's why I'm very happy to look back at the June matches. We had some new faces, but Sweden looked like Sweden," he told Fotbollskanalen.
Lindelof recently held talks with Bayer Leverkusen, now coached by his former Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag. The Bundesliga side want to add experience after losing Granit Xhaka to Sunderland, but so far, little appears to have come of these discussions with the Swede.
