Tottenham Hotspur are in “direct contact” with Crystal Palace over a deal for Eberechi Eze after hijacking Arsenal’s proposed move for the England international.

Eze, 27, was widely expected to join Mikel Arteta’s side in a blockbuster summer transfer, but Spurs are now the frontrunners for his signature and a deal is nearing its conclusion.

The England star played 84 minutes during Crystal Palace’s 0-0 draw versus Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, however that could prove to be his final appearance for the club, with Tottenham close to reaching an agreement, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The football transfer news expert posted on X: “EXCL: Tottenham and Crystal Palace chairmans Daniel Levy and Steve Parish, in direct contact today for Eberechi Eze deal.

“Understand Spurs are willing to offer £55m fixed fee plus £5m add-ons to get the deal done. Eze informed Palace last week of his desire to join THFC.”

Eze notched 25 goal contributions in 43 games last season and he has now set his sights on completing a move to Tottenham after Arsenal opted to delay their pursuit.

Eberechi Eze to join Tottenham?

After Crystal Palace’s draw against Chelsea on Sunday, Eagles boss Oliver Glasner told reporters: “There are a lot of rumours about Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, but they were 100% with this group... and they have proved that in a big way.

“He [Eze] will come tomorrow to the Crystal Palace training ground, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad.”

However, Eze looked emotional when clapping the Palace fans following the match, while eagle-eyed viewers pointed out that he appeared to be holding back tears after his substitution in the 84th minute.

Tottenham have already spent €145.6m on the signings of Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic, Kota Takai and Joao Palhinha (loan) so far this summer, but they are edging closer to finalising a deal for Eze in a major coup for Thomas Frank.
