Confirmed: Kobbie Mainoo wants to LEAVE Man Utd
Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly decided he wants to leave Manchester United before the summer transfer window closes on Monday.
The England midfielder has been an unused substitute in both of Man Utd’s opening two Premier League fixtures of the new campaign - versus Arsenal and Fulham - and he is now looking to leave his boyhood club.
That is according to The Guardian, who claim that Mainoo is eager to depart Man Utd after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils boss has favoured Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in a deep midfield role so far this season, while Manuel Ugarte is also ahead of Mainoo in the pecking order. Furthermore, Man Utd remain interested in signing a new central midfielder, with Adam Wharton and Lucien Agoume among the players on their radar.
Man Utd would reportedly be willing to sell Mainoo if they receive a suitable offer, although there are fears that an acceptable bid is unlikely to arrive before the end of Transfer Deadline Day.
Speaking after Man Utd’s 1-1 draw versus Fulham on Sunday, Amorim admitted: “He’s (Mainoo) fighting for the position now with Bruno, and I changed two midfielders.
“I let Mason Mount [play] there because we want to score a goal and when I changed I felt the team needed to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno.
“So he just needs to fight for the position with Bruno, as [it] should be at Manchester United. [Sometimes] he’s going to play with Bruno, but at the moment he’s fighting in training with Bruno for the position.”
Who will leave Man Utd before Transfer Deadline Day?
Although Mainoo may struggle to leave Man Utd this summer, Alejandro Garnacho is expected to depart Old Trafford amid significant interest from Chelsea.
Enzo Maresca’s side are currently prioritising player sales, amid the threat of an increased UEFA punishment, however they are set to finalise a deal for the Argentina international this week.
Meanwhile, Real Betis have reportedly reached an “agreement in principle” to re-sign Antony on loan following a fruitful temporary spell at the club last season.
Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia have also been tipped to leave Man Utd before the window closes on 1 September.
