Chelsea explore move for Barcelona superstar Fermin Lopez - Ornstein
Chelsea are officially exploring a possible move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, according to David Ornstein.
The Blues have already bolstered their ranks with eight signings so far this summer, but they are now in contact with Fermin’s representatives as they eye the potential of bringing him to Stamford Bridge before Transfer Deadline Day.
That is according to Ornstein, who has revealed that Chelsea have officially reached out to Fermin’s camp ahead of a possible bid.
However, Enzo Maresca’s side are reportedly yet to initiate club-to-club talks with Barcelona.
Fermin still has four years remaining on his current contract at Barcelona, having signed an extension back in October, but a departure could be on the cards due to immense competition for places at Camp Nou.
Manchester United have also been linked with the 22-year-old throughout the summer window, although he recently poured cold water on exit claims with a major transfer statement.
“I want to stay here. It’s my dream and I will stay, I’m happy to help the team,” Fermin admitted after Barcelona’s pre-season friendly versus Como in August.
“Many things have been said, but I am going to continue defending these colours and working as hard as anyone else, so that the Catalans are calm.”
However, Barcelona may be forced to sell the Spain international this summer due to ongoing financial problems.
Fermin to Chelsea?
Spanish outlet SPORT even claim that Chelsea have submitted an opening offer worth €50 million for Fermin.
The 22-year-old scored eight goals in 46 appearances across all competitions last season and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €57.1m.
Chelsea are also interested in signing RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, although a move for the Netherlands star may depend on whether Christopher Nkunku secures a return to the Bundesliga outfit.
Meanwhile, the Blues are also close to finalising a deal for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.
