Manchester United have been sent an alarming message has the transfer market enters its final week.

Ruben Amorim is desperate to add more to his side after taking just a single point from the first two Premier League matches of the season. He may be constrained in what he can do in the market until players are sold.

Four stars in particular have been earmarked to leave Old Trafford before the end of Deadline Day next Monday. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia can all go, but it looks doubtful that United will be able to move them all on.

In particular, Sancho is causing a headache. Despite interest in the former England winger, it appears that he is quite happy to sit on the periphery of things at Man Utd.

Roma transfer chief Frederic Massara was scathing of the player’s attitude regarding a transfer to the Serie A giants.

“Sancho is a strong player, who was linked with all the Italian clubs,” Massara told SportMediaset.

“At the moment, a move is only a suggestion because it doesn't seem as if there are the right conditions and above all, the motivation to carry on these negotiations.”

Big salary, big problem

Man Utd have found that Sancho’s wages are a huge sticking point in negotiations. He is paid around €300,000 (£250,000) per week.

Whereas Marcus Rashford was willing to take a pay cut to move to Barcelona on loan earlier this summer, there appears to be little appetite from the former Borussia Dortmund star to reduce his massive salary by leaving the club.

A further concern that was reported by some media was that Sancho’s agents wanted a huge commission for brokering the deal. This figure was reported to be up to €10m – adding a sizeable chunk onto the size of the player’s cost.

United paid €85 million to sign Sancho from Dortmund in 2021 but are now willing to cut their losses by selling him for around €25m. Under contract until 2026, the ex-Manchester City youth is under no obligation to leave and appears willing to hang around until the end of his deal.
