Erling Haaland’s future at Manchester City has been thrust into doubt following the turmoil the Premier League side faces, and Fabrizio Romano has indicated the Norway striker’s likely next destination.

City face the possibility of being relegated from the Premier League after being found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges levelled against them by the organisation, with a suggestion that they could be “destroyed” by the decision.

Haaland is one of a number of Man City stars who could be forced to leave the club, with Romano forecasting that Barcelona or Real Madrid could snap up the forward should this doomsday scenario come to pass.

Haaland future: Real Madrid and Barcelona still interested

Despite Haaland's current commitment to Man City, Romano says the Norwegian's long-term future could eventually involve a move to Spain.

“No one knows what Haaland will do next. This will depend on several factors,” Romano told his YouTube channel.

“I can guarantee you two things, and these are completely separate. One thing is that Erling Haaland is now ready to fight for Man City, with Man City and focused completely on Man City. That's a fact.

“On the other side, if you ask me, is there a chance to see Erling Haaland one day playing in Spain for a top Spanish club? Real Madrid and Barcelona wanted Erling Haaland since the times of Borussia Dortmund.

“Real Madrid and Barcelona have always been around for Haaland. So I would not be surprised one day, but this is not linked to the process, to the verdict or anything else. They've always been around.

“I would not be surprised one day to see Erling Haaland playing in La Liga because they wanted him and they will keep insisting for him in the future.

“But this is a completely different topic to the reality. This is my feeling, my opinion for the future.

“If you ask me about the present, Erling Haaland is completely focused on Man City. I think this message is absolutely worth sharing, because Haaland sends a powerful message in a very difficult moment for Manchester City.”

Haaland’s upbeat Man City record

Romano reminded City fans of the positive message that Haaland sent them this week.

“Erling Haaland is under contract here for many years at Manchester City. Erling Haaland is a symbol of Manchester City, and this is for sure the most difficult moment for Man City in the last years and season,” he said.

“But Erling Haaland said these words today about Manchester City: ‘I care a lot about the UK. I care a lot about Manchester City. I care a lot about the fans. I'm a fan myself of Man City and I feel with them.’

“Then he says, ‘We have to stick together, stay with each other, stay positive. We always have to be together and to smile.’

“So it's a positive message from Erling Haaland to Manchester City fans. I think it's a strong answer after difficult weeks for Man City from Erling Haaland.”
