Xavi Simons CONFIRMS Chelsea transfer desire
RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons has reportedly confirmed his desire to join Chelsea during talks with his current employers.
The 22-year-old is expected to secure a move to Enzo Maresca’s side before Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September and he has directly informed Leipzig that he only wants to join Chelsea this summer.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also eager to sign Simons before the transfer window closes, however he is only interested in securing a Stamford Bridge switch, according to ESPN.
The Netherlands international was a surprise inclusion in Leipzig’s starting XI to face SV Sandhausen on Saturday, scoring once and providing one assist, but Chelsea are now reportedly willing to submit a €60 million offer for his services as they look to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.
The Blues are also in advanced talks to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, and rumours speculate that Simons will remain at Leipzig until Chelsea are able to offload Christopher Nkunku on a permanent deal.
The Frenchman was omitted from Chelsea’s matchday squad versus Crystal Palace on Sunday and Bayern Munich are eager to finalise a deal after failing to sign Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams earlier this summer.
Xavi Simons to join Chelsea?
Simons scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions last season, and Chelsea view him as a versatile attacker capable of providing depth in multiple forward positions.
If the Dutchman completes his desired move to Chelsea, he would become their ninth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, Liam Delap, Estevao Willian, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have earned a total of €232m through player sales so far this summer, with Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall among those to have departed.
