Chelsea wonderkid hands in transfer request - Romano
Tyrique George reportedly wants to leave Chelsea this summer in search of more regular game time.
The England U19 international made 26 first-team appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side last season, but he is eager to leave Stamford Bridge following the signing of Jamie Gittens and the Blues’ continued pursuit of both Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “Tyrique George wants to leave Chelsea this month with reduced game time… and Bundesliga clubs keen on signing him.
“Permanent move also possible; Chelsea prefer to keep George but accept his desire for regular football. RB Leipzig and Gladbach among clubs keen.”
Romano has also confirmed that Leipzig informed Chelsea of their desire to sign George during club-to-club talks about the aforementioned Simons.
The Telegraph’s Matt Law recently reported that Chelsea want to send George on a season-long loan for the 2025-26 campaign, but he has reportedly now decided to push for a permanent exit.
The 19-year-old impressed in the Europa Conference League last year, following Mykhailo Mudryk’s doping suspension, however he has fallen down the pecking order following Chelsea’s transfer business this summer.
Pedro Neto and Gittens will provide competition for George if he is unable to secure a Chelsea exit, but a departure certainly appears to be on the cards given the Blues’ pursuit of Simons and Garnacho.
Who will Chelsea sell this summer?
Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga, Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku, Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana are all expected to leave Chelsea this summer, with the club eager to reduce the size of Maresca’s first-team squad.
Alfie Gilchrist and Nicolas Jackson could be sold too, while George has now emerged as another player who may depart due to his desire for regular senior football.
