The Blues identified the centre forward position as a priority area for improvement following Nicolas Jackson’s woes last season and they opted to finalise deals for both Pedro and Delap as a result.

Pedro became the sixth player to join Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion since 2022 when he completed a €63.7 million move to west London on 2 July, while Delap arrived from Ipswich Town after his €35.5m relegation release clause was triggered.

The pair are set to compete for a starting berth during the 2025-26 campaign, with the aforementioned Jackson expected to be sold amid interest from multiple clubs across Europe, and Palmer has admitted his delight at Chelsea’s decision to both players.

“He’s so good man, I love playing with him,” Palmer told NBC Sports when asked about Pedro. “Even in training we just have good chemistry and know where each other are going to be.

“It was amazing to see him come in. We knew he was a good player before but to see it in person was really good.”

Pedro has usurped fellow summer signing Delap as Chelsea’s first-choice striker since his arrival at the club, but Palmer believes the Englishman will also prove to be a success at Stamford Bridge.

“I just think he’s [Delap] something different. He’s different to Joao and other strikers I’ve played with. He’s more old-school, he’s aggressive, he’ll run in behind, he’s just a handful for defenders and he’s one of the best finishes I’ve seen as well.

“Hopefully those two together score some goals between them.”

Pedro has already netted three goals in four competitive appearances for Chelsea, while Delap has scored once in seven games since moving to the club from Ipswich. They also registered two goals apiece during pre-season friendlies versus Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan.
