Xavi Simons twist: Chelsea receive HUGE transfer warning
RB Leipzig have warned Chelsea that Xavi Simons will remain at the club unless they receive an offer worth at least €70 million this summer.
The Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past few weeks and he has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Enzo Maresca’s side.
Simons has even informed Leipzig that he only wants to join Chelsea this summer, according to ESPN, despite interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
However, German outlet Kicker have revealed that Leipzig will not reduce their €70m asking price. As a result, Chelsea will be forced to make Simons their seventh-most expensive signing of all time if they want to purchase him before Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
This news has been confirmed by Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schafer, who told Sky Sports (via Get German Football News): “We make all our decisions based on sporting and financial considerations. If it suits everyone, we have often facilitated player transfers in the past.
“That’s not the case at the moment, and if nothing changes, Xavi will remain an RB Leipzig player.”
Xavi Simons to Chelsea in doubt
Reports suggest that Chelsea won’t sign Simons unless they are able to sell Christopher Nkunku on a permanent deal, and their hopes of achieving the latter have taken a hammer blow.
BILD journalist Christian Falk has claimed that Nkunku’s proposed move to Bayern Munich is currently “in jeopardy” as Chelsea want to sell the 27-year-old, while Vincent Kompany’s side are interested in a loan deal.
Furthermore, Nkunku’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has reportedly told Bayern Munich officials that his client will remain at Stamford Bridge for another season after engaging in talks with the Chelsea hierarchy during their 0-0 draw versus Crystal Palace on Sunday.
