Chelsea deal edges closer after €60m bid
Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their bid to sell Christopher Nkunku to Bayern Munich this summer.
The France international has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy and he is expected to leave west London on a permanent deal before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
Nkunku endured an injury-hit first campaign at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino, while he was unable to establish himself as a regular starter in the Premier League under Enzo Maresca last term.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a departure in recent months and the arrival of Joao Pedro, in addition to Chelsea’s pursuit of Xavi Simons, has accelerated talks of a summer exit.
The likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan have all been touted as possible destinations for Nkunku in recent weeks, although Bayern appear to be the frontrunners for his signature.
Vincent Kompany’s side were interested in completing a deal for the Frenchman during the January transfer window and they have officially rekindled their interest in his services, as per multiple sources.

Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade is also a key target for Bayern, but they have now seen a €60 million bid for the Germany international turned down, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Stuttgart are reportedly demanding a fee of €75m for the 23-year-old, which is currently out of Bayern’s budget. As a result, the deal is therefore in doubt.
Nkunku represents a significantly cheaper alternative for the Bavarians and they could accelerate their pursuit of his signature amid their failure to land Woltemade.
Chelsea value Nkunku at roughly €50m, as per reports, and the Blues are eager to sanction a sale this summer in order to fund moves for Alejandro Garnacho and the aforementioned Simons.
