Chelsea have been handed a lifeline in their bid to offload Christopher Nkunku as Bayern Munich have reignited their pursuit of the Frenchman.

The 27-year-old is desperate to leave the Blues this summer, but discussions over a transfer away have so far proved fruitless. Nkunku has no shortage of admirers, but his cost is expected to be quite steep.

Indeed, on Monday, it was revealed that RB Leipzig will likely struggle to afford their former player, despite being offered his services during talks with Chelsea over Xavi Simons.

A deal for the Dutchman hinges on the Blues offloading Nkunku and his fellow 'Bomb Squad' members. Leipzig would be open to bringing the France international back, but only via a loan deal that would see Chelsea cover a part of his wages.

However, both the player and his current employer favour a permanent move. With a move to Leipzig difficult to realise, the answer to Nkunku's prayers may be found elsewhere in Germany.

Bayern back in for Nkunku

According to L'Equipe, Bayern have fully reignited their pursuit of Nkunku, and they even consider him their 'top priority' to replace Kingsley Coman, who has joined Al-Nassr in a €30 million deal.

The Bavarians already wanted the 27-year-old in January and made significant progress on a transfer. They agreed personal terms with Nkunku, but ultimately baulked at Chelsea's whopping €70m asking price.

However, the situation appears to have drastically changed now, with the Blues lowering their demands to €40m-€50m, the report claims. Talks with Nkunku and Chelsea are set to accelerate shortly.

Meanwhile, Sky Germany reported on Monday evening that Nkunku is just one of several names currently on Bayern's attacking shortlist. Contrary to reports elsewhere, they remain keen on Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade.

Lyon winger Malick Fofana is another target. The aforementioned Simons could become an option should a move to Chelsea fall through, while Nicolas Jackson is being monitored.
