Chelsea’s attempts at raising substantial funds by selling Nicolas Jackson this summer could be thwarted after a major frontrunner for his signature seemingly backed out of a move.

Jackson has become a hot topic of discussion this summer after Chelsea’s purchases of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, which have pushed the Senegalese international down the pecking order in Enzo Maresca’s side.

While Chelsea have not actively looked to sell Jackson, they are aware of significant interest in him from a number of Premier League sides, which has led to the 24-year-old reportedly looking to consider his options of a move.

With Manchester United signing Benjamin Sesko last week, Newcastle remain as one of the few sides still in need of a striker, particularly with ongoing doubts over Alexander Isak’s future.

However, Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has stated that Newcastle ‘have reservations’ of signing Jackson as the forward is not seen as 'in the same calibre as Isak'.

Chelsea are believed to be holding out for a fee of around €80 million for Jackson, while Newcastle are thought to value him closer to €70m, although they may opt against a move for the player altogether.

Newcastle’s Jackson decision could have significant Isak implications

Jackson was wanted by the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal earlier in the summer but those teams have secured new strikers, while Aston Villa are unable to afford his fee even with their interest.

Chelsea could still offer Jackson to Man Utd in a potential deal for Alejandro Garnacho but United would only be open to his arrival now if Rasmus Hojlund is sold.

Newcastle, meanwhile had considered Jackson as a potential replacement for Isak but the value of the deal has meant that they have pursed a move for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa instead.

However, Wissa is seen as a successor to the now-departed Callum Wilson and, should they opt against signing Jackson, the situation could leave Isak remaining in Newcastle due to their inability to bring in an adequate replacement unless Chelsea’s demands are lowered.
