Arsenal's William Saliba transfer plan RUINED by Liverpool
Marc Guehi’s imminent move to Liverpool could cause a transfer domino that results in Arsenal missing out on their dream replacement for William Saliba.
Guehi, 25, has just one year remaining on his current contract at Crystal Palace and he is widely expected to complete a summer move to Anfield, having already agreed personal terms with Arne Slot’s side.
The England international has been linked with a host of top Premier League clubs over the past few months, however he is on the verge of joining Liverpool for at least €40 million, despite their recent purchase of Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has admitted that Guehi will be sold this summer in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2026 and the Eagles have identified Stade Rennais youngster Jeremy Jacquet as a possible successor.
That is according to The Independent, who claim that Rennes are demanding a fee of €40m to sell Jacquet this summer.
The France U21 international spent the first-half of last season on loan at Clermont Foot in Ligue 2, before being recalled during the January transfer window. He then started 11 of Rennes’ final 14 league games of the campaign, and his form has attracted significant transfer interest from the Premier League.
Jeremy Jacquet to Crystal Palace?
Liverpool were linked with a move for Jacquet before they opted to purchase the aforementioned Leoni, while Arsenal have earmarked him as a top transfer target amid fears that Saliba could depart for Real Madrid.
FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are optimistic of reaching an agreement with Saliba over a new long-term contract at the club, but he is Real Madrid’s dream centre-back target and rumours of blockbuster switch continue to persist.
However, if Liverpool sign Guehi, it could prompt Palace to finalise a deal for Jacquet, which would force Arsenal to rethink their contingency plan in the event that Saliba departs.
