Arsenal stance on Viktor Gyokeres revealed as 'plausible option' emerges

Arsenal have outlined their January stance on Viktor Gyokeres amid suggestions that he is growing frustrated with his role.

The 28-year-old experienced a mixed first season at the Emirates after arriving from Sporting CP last summer. Although it was inevitable that he would not be able to match his ridiculous attacking output from Portugal, he ultimately left many Arsenal supporters underwhelmed.

Despite bagging a respectable 21 goals in roughly 3,500 minutes of action, Gyokeres was accused of being a flat-track bully. He only scored against supposed smaller teams and struggled in big matches.

Indeed, not a single one of Gyokeres' 14 Premier League strikes came against Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd or Aston Villa. The Sweden international's struggles have only increased this season.

He has barely played so far due to Kai Havertz's impressive early-season form, although that may change after the international break due to the injury recently suffered by the German. Because of his lack of action, rumours have suggested that Gyokeres is unhappy at Arsenal.

Arsenal's Gyokeres stance

Speaking while on international duty with Sweden, Gyokeres sought to squash these claims by stating that he is "extremely happy" at Arsenal and that staying this summer "was a given." However, he did admit that sitting on the bench isn't easy.

"Of course, it’s frustrating, no matter where you are," he said. "You always want to be on the pitch and make a contribution, score goals. It can be frustrating at times, but I just try to do my best when I get the chance and focus on what I can control."

In the summer, Gyokeres received approaches from possible suitors in Europe and the Middle East. Arsenal also considered trading him to Atletico Madrid in exchange for Julian Alvarez, but nothing came of it due to the Argentine's reluctance to return to England.

Speculation over his future persists. In recent days, AC Milan have emerged as a possible destination for him, despite the fact that they shattered their club record on Goncalo Ramos this summer. The Portuguese has only scored once so far.

Responding to these suggestions, Milan journalist Carlo Pellegatti shared his belief that a deal in January or next summer is unlikely, precisely because of the €74 million outlay on Ramos, as well as a general reluctance from Arsenal to sanction loan deals.

"I don’t believe in the Gyokeres option because they won’t give him to us on loan at all," Pellegatti explained on his YouTube channel. "It would mean investing another €70m or €75m on a striker. I would rule it out."

Instead, the Italian suggested that a loan deal for Real Madrid striker Endrick - who has ironically also been linked with Arsenal as a Gyokeres replacement - would be the "more plausible option" for the Rossoneri.

"I keep reading, and it seems to me that a more plausible option is the loan of Endrick, the Brazilian player. He turned 20 in July 2026, he’s a very talented player, currently at Real Madrid, where he plays very little."
