Arsenal have registered their interest in PSG attacker Kang-in Lee just days after the South Korea helped to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

Although Lee has struggled to make an impression at Parc des Princes since arriving from Mallorca in 2023, his impact off the bench in the midweek match in Udine helped to change the flow of the fixture. With PSG trailing 2-0 with minutes remaining, his terrific late strike helped change the course of the game, setting up Luis Enrique’s side to win on penalties.

Arsenal are one of a number of teams that are following the situation of the 24-year-old, according to CaughtOffside, which also notes interest from Napoli and Manchester United.

The Gunners, it is claimed, have made “direct contact” to negotiate a deal with Lee, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €26 million.

It is added that PSG are open to negotiations and that the player’s priority is to move to a club where he can get more regular starting football.

Kang-in Lee to Arsenal: Analysing the rumour

There is a great deal about this story that does not add up.

Firstly, Lee is unlikely to gain significantly more first-team football at Arsenal this season than he would get at PSG. His role in Paris is liable to become more important, with last term’s packed campaign liable to take its toll on Luis Enrique’s small squad.

Furthermore, PSG are unlikely to be open to a sale at this stage of the window unless an outrageous offer is received. The squad is already lacking in depth in the attacking areas, something that was not apparent last season because they went largely injury free.

Certainly, Lee would be a player who would benefit Mikel Arteta’s squad at Arsenal, but he would likely face the same obstacles in London that he has tackled in Paris.

Are we likely to see him leave PSG this summer? It seems very unlikely.
