Liverpool seal Isak move as €29m deal agreed
Liverpool are poised to complete a €29 million transfer that will set in motion the arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle in a complicated domino.
After having a first bid of €130m for Isak turned down by Newcastle, the Reds have waited patiently for a deal to fall into place, and it appears that this approach is about to pay off.
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is now in a position to press the red button to get this deal done, thanks to the €29m(£25m) sale of Ben Doak to Bournemouth.
The Scotland winger’s departure will set a chain of events in motion that will wind up with Isak completing his dream switch to Anfield.
The Guardian reports that Doak’s move to Bournemouth is all but complete, with Liverpool set to land an enormous profit on a player they signed for €700,000 (£600,000) from Celtic in 2022.
In turn, this has freed Bournemouth up to allow winger Dango Ouattara to move to Brentford for close to €50m, which means that the Bees will be able to sell Yoane Wissa to Newcastle.
With an attacking replacement of sorts secured for Isak, Eddie Howe’s side will therefore be in a better position to sell the disgruntled Isak to Liverpool.
An end in sight to the Isak saga?
The current situation does not suit anyone. Liverpool boss Arne Slot has admitted that he needs another attack and already seems to be planning for Isak’s arrival, while the 25-year-old Swede is ‘on strike’ at Newcastle and of little use to Eddie Howe in his current mindset.
Negotiations between the clubs still promise to be tricky. Newcastle previously targeted a fee of around €170m, but with time running out in the transfer window and Isak growing increasingly rebellious, they are unlikely to be able to fetch such a sum.
Liverpool are reportedly willing to offer around €140m for the striker, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs. It remains to be seen if this will be enough to make Newcastle sell.
